An antique FORDS PATENT fountain pen with a length of 5.65 in (144 mm). The plunger fill pen should fill on the upstroke and the ink is transferred past the seal to the ink chamber on the downstroke. However, this pen is not in working condition and will probably need seals replacing etc… The whole assembly is housed in a sleeve to prevent blobbing of the ink. The pen has a semi-flexible 14 Carat gold nib impressed FORD 428 MILL 14 CARAT which writes smoothly MEDIUM. The barrel of the pen is clearly impressed FORDS PATENT LONDON on one side and less clearly PAT NOS 337794 & 337835 OTHER & WORLD PATS PENDING on the other. The cap lips are notoriously thin and fragile and this pen has a crack and chip to the lower end of the cap below the rings, otherwise in good condition overall.
